Body Control Pilates

What is Body Control Pilates?

Body control pilates helps you develop awareness of your own body by bringing together the mind and body. This medically recognised and holistic approach helps you handle the stresses and strains of everyday life as well as helping you relax more easily while dealing with physical pain too.

The mat based exercises can work for everyone, no matter what your fitness level, and are built on 8 key principles;

  • Relaxation

  • Co-ordination

  • Alignment

  • Stamina

  • Concentration

  • Centring

  • Breathing

  • Flowing Movements

Using mat based exercises your practitioner will initially focus on key areas of concern such as areas of pain and restricted movement.  Body Control Pilates is effective for improving musculoskeletal problems including back and neck pain.

Beginning with low level, gentle exercise, your body will regain alignment as the deep postural muscles are strengthened.

Re-balancing of your body takes time, and your practitioner will adjust your exercises as your body begins to respond and heal.

What can I expect from a treatment?

An initial one hour lesson begins with a consultation to allow your practitioner to understand your concerns.

  • What issues are you having with aches and pains or restriction of movement?

  • Do you want to improve your performance in a sport you play?

  • Do you want to continue with a physical activity that your issue is stopping you from doing?

During the lesson you will learn self help techniques that you can do at home which will benefit a wide range of conditions such as back, shoulder and neck pain. These techniques can also help improve mobility and help with pain pre or post hip operations and breast cancer rehabilitation.

You can expect a guided and progressive approach to easing tension and improving movement using a variety of methods including therapy balls, Somatics and Pilates.

Beginning with techniques to release tension will help you to stimulate your own self awareness and promote confidence to self care. The fundamentals of Pilates will help build strength from the inside out, providing a strong foundation on which to build and restore your ability to move and play well.
