What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy helps you restore movement and function when you’ve been affected by injury, illness or disability.

Your physiotherapists can help you through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice. They maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

Your physiotherapist encourages development and facilitates recovery, which can enable anyone with illnesses or disabilities to stay in work while remaining independent for as long as possible.

Physiotherapy is a science-based profession and takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes looking at your general lifestyle. At the core is your involvement in your own care, through education, awareness, empowerment and participation in your treatment.

You can benefit from physiotherapy at any time in your life.

Conditions treated include: -

  • Muscle, tendon and ligament sprains and strains

  • Sports injuries

  • Neck pain, back pain and sciatica

What can I expect from a treatment?

Following your initial assessment, a treatment plan will be agreed. This will be specific to your problem and may change as your condition improves or changes.

This may include any combination of the following techniques or treatments to promote optimum recovery:

  • Joint mobilization

  • Soft Tissue Release and Massage

  • Acupuncture & Tui Na

  • Ultrasound

  • Interferential

  • TENS

  • Traction

  • Manipulation

  • Gait analysis

  • Biomechanical assessment

  • Injury Rehabilitation

  • Exercises

It is always advisable to seek treatment as soon as possible. Early treatment can mean a quick recovery and less time off work or away from leisure activity or sport.
